Job: Bilingual Education Specialist
Location: Sudan
Timescale: Starts now, full time
Sudan is slowly emerging from the longest-running civil war in Africa. SIL Sudan Branch is partnering with the Ministry of Education for Southern Sudan and a number of churches and is committed to being part of the re-construction of the south, particularly in the area of mother tongue primary school education, which is guaranteed under the new Constitution. The education of a new generation of readers is a core part of our strategy to bring the written word of God to the people. Bilingual education specialists are responsible for providing individual technical assistance and experienced project advice in the development of bilingual education materials and programmes. You will work with Sudanese educators to develop individual bilingual education programmes for language minorities. You will assist in the development of training programmes for bilingual teachers. You need to be able to communicate clearly and concisely and listen, encourage and act as a sounding board. You may plan, coordinate or participate in periodic or special literacy/bilingual education workshops. You will need to develop and maintain organized records of detailed information. You will be working in a cross-cultural working and living situation.
