Job: Language Survey Team Member

Location: Sudan

Timescale: Starts now, full time

No systematic language survey of southern Sudan has taken place since the 1980s, due to the recently ended civil war. What language development is needed for Scriptures to have an impact on communities? Survey work in Sudan will contribute to building the Peace. Join the first Sudan Branch survey team in the 21st century and work as part of a team to gather data by making use of secondary data sources in libraries, the internet, periodic journals, linguistic seminars and primary data through linguistic and sociolinguistic survey work on the field. Work on a team to record findings in detailed, accurate reports which may include analysis and conclusions. Write up research and conclusions in a concise, readable manner. Contribute people profiles and technical reports for publication. Survey work gives some of the best opportunities to get the broadest appreciation of the socio-linguistic dynamics of the country and prepares the surveyor to be a skilled contributor to the strategy of the Branch.
