Job: Dodoma Team Leader
Location: Uganda-Tanzania
Timescale: Starts now, full time
UTB is a young and growing multi-cultural team working in two countries of east Africa, Uganda and Tanzania. We work in both single language projects and language cluster projects encompassing up to ten languages. These communities are excited and motivated for language development and Bible translation and we are actively training nationals to be as involved in every level of the work possible. The Uganda-Tanzania Branch (UTB) is one of the first three branches chosen to begin SIL’s Last Languages Initiative which is a strategic program with increased funding in order to achieve the task of Bible translation at a more rapid rate. We still have around 60 more languages in need of a Bible translation in Tanzania alone. UTB needs young, energetic people willing to work in multicultural teams to get the job done. We need people with skills and training such as linguists, translators, literacy and Scripture Use workers as well as administrators, managers, teachers, accountants, IT experts and many others. There are certainly challenges to living in east Africa, but the work and the experience is hugely rewarding. There is an old African proverb that says, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go farther, go together.’ Come and be a part of our team so that we can go far together, all the way to the end—to the point where all Ugandans and Tanzanians have access to God’s word in a language they understand well.
