Job: Script Engineer
Location: USA
Timescale: Starts 01 Jul 2011, full time
As a computer research and development department, the Non-Roman Script Initiative is working with the latest advances in technology and international standards. One of the ways we contribute to the work of Bible Translation is to ensure that scripts used by lesser-known languages can be written using a computer. A Script Researcher understands enough linguistics to do the linguistic documentation of a writing system and create a Unicode proposal for inclusion of that script into an International Standard, and can follow a project through to completion - normally the creation of a Unicode font. The ability to learn and apply what we learn means that Wycliffe Bible Translators can have the capacity to reach our Vision 2025 goal of a translation project begun in every people group (and every script) where one is needed by the year 2025.
