Job: Systems/Engineer Programmer
Location: USA
Timescale: Starts now, full time
In the task of Bible translation, there are new frontiers of technology that must be mastered in order to make our work more productive and more effective. As a computer research and development department, the Non-Roman Script Initiative is on the leading edge of discovery. For example, today's fonts are "smart" and can position diacritics correctly or change shapes and behaviors according to context. One task of a System Engineer might be to program the necessary routines, tables and linguistic "rules" of that script into the font. Another could be to support and improve tools that allow for complex typesetting, or for conversion from one format to another. The ability to learn and apply what we learn means that Wycliffe Bible Translators can move toward our Vision 2025 goal of a translation project begun in every people group (and every script) where one is needed by the year 2025.
